Keerthy Suresh has opened up about the challenges she faced at home before marrying longtime partner Antony Thattil. In a recent conversation with Curly Tales, the actor spoke candidly about her interfaith relationship and the time it took to convince her family. She also recalled how her mother, veteran actor Menaka, discovered the romance after reading her personal diary during her college years.
The couple, who dated for nearly 15 years, got married in December 2024. Their relationship began long before Keerthy became a prominent name in Indian cinema, making the story a deeply personal chapter in her life.
Keerthy Suresh Recalls Family Resistance
Keerthy said that Antony’s Christian faith led to difficulties at home, and she needed time to gain her family’s acceptance. Recalling their early relationship, she explained that they met in December 2009 and began dating in January 2010.
“Since he’s a Christian, there obviously were problems at home that I had to face. It took a while for me to convince [my family],” the actor said.
She also reflected on how Antony had known her before she entered the film industry. For Keerthy, that shared history remains one of the most meaningful aspects of their relationship. The couple eventually married after years of keeping their romance largely private.
Her Mother Discovered the Relationship Through a Diary
The actor also revisited the moment her mother learned about Antony. Keerthy said she began dating him shortly after completing Class 12, and her college diary contained details about their relationship.
Menaka reportedly told her, “I’m your mother; I can read your diary.”
Keerthy said the incident affected her love for diary writing. Although she had enjoyed keeping a journal, she stopped writing after her mother read it. She later admitted she did not know where the diary had gone and joked that she suspected her mother might have burned it.
A Long Relationship Kept Away From the Spotlight
Keerthy and Antony first met through mutual friends and maintained a private relationship for years. Antony, who is older than the actor, was working in Qatar during the early years, and the couple also navigated a long-distance phase.
Keerthy made their relationship public in November 2024, sharing a photograph that marked 15 years together. They married on December 12, 2024, in Goa, with ceremonies reflecting their respective religious traditions.
