Nora Fatehi Team Clarifies She Is Not an Accused in Sukesh Case

Nora Fatehi’s legal team has clarified that the actor-dancer is not an accused in the ₹200-crore extortion case linked to Sukesh Chandrashekhar. The statement came after the matter was heard at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on November 2, where Fatehi had been summoned to appear as a witness.

Her lawyers appeared before the court and explained that she had received the summons at short notice and could not attend because of prior professional commitments. They also filed an application seeking exemption from her personal appearance.

The legal team stressed that Fatehi had been called only to assist the court in the ongoing proceedings. “It is clarified that Nora Fatehi is neither an accused nor alleged to have committed any offence in these proceedings. She has been summoned solely as a witness to assist the Court,” the statement said.

Court Issues Fresh Summons for November 6

Following the exemption application, the court adjourned the matter to November 6 and issued fresh summons for Fatehi to appear and record her evidence. She is expected to attend the next hearing as a prosecution witness.

The case concerns allegations that Chandrashekhar orchestrated an extortion racket worth approximately ₹200 crore while lodged in Delhi’s Rohini Jail. He is accused of impersonating senior government officials to carry out the alleged fraud. The Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing investigated the matter, with charges filed under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

Nora Fatehi’s Earlier Connection to the Case

Fatehi had previously been questioned by the EOW regarding her interactions with Chandrashekhar and his wife, Leena Maria Paulose. Her statement was recorded before a magistrate, and she was later named as a prosecution witness in a supplementary chargesheet.

According to reports, Fatehi told investigators that her interaction with Chandrashekhar was through his wife. Her team’s latest statement reiterates that she is appearing in the matter as a witness and is not facing allegations of wrongdoing.

What Happens Next?

Fatehi’s scheduled appearance on November 6 is expected to allow the court to record her testimony. The legal clarification is important amid reports describing her summons, as the team has emphasized the distinction between being called as a witness and being accused in a criminal case.

The proceedings against Chandrashekhar and other accused will continue separately, while Fatehi is expected to assist the court in her capacity as a witness.
