Netflix has unveiled the first look at The Royals Season 2, confirming that the royal family of Morpur is returning with new relationships, rivalries and a wider world of palace intrigue. The streaming platform announced on November 3 that the second season is filming, with Ishaan Khatter, Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Vihaan Samat and Kavya Trehan reprising their roles.
The first-look announcement offers fans an early glimpse of the next chapter of the romantic comedy-drama, which became a global hit following its debut in May 2025. Directors Nitya Mehra and Tanuj Chopra are leading the new season, while creators Rangita Pritish Nandy and Ishita Pritish Nandy are returning to continue the story.
Netflix has not yet revealed a release date or detailed the new characters joining the royal household. However, the streamer has confirmed that Season 2 will expand the fictional kingdom of Morpur, bringing more kingdoms, alliances and romantic complications into the story.
Ishaan Khatter and Zeenat Aman Lead the Returning Cast
Ishaan Khatter is back as Prince Aviraaj Singh, also known as Fizzy, the charming but carefree royal whose family struggles to preserve its legacy in modern India. Zeenat Aman and Sakshi Tanwar are also returning, alongside Vihaan Samat and Kavya Trehan.
The first season followed Aviraaj and Sophia Kanmani Shekhar, played by Bhumi Pednekar, as their contrasting worlds collided over a plan to transform the family’s struggling ancestral palace into a luxury hospitality business. Their professional partnership gradually turned into a romance, while family politics and financial pressures complicated their relationship.
Bhumi Pednekar will not return for Season 2, according to reports following Netflix’s production announcement. Her absence marks a significant change for the series, which centred much of its first season on Sophia and Aviraaj’s relationship.
Netflix has not yet confirmed how Sophia’s departure will be addressed in the storyline. The new season is expected to introduce fresh characters and romantic dynamics rather than simply repeating the original couple’s journey.
Season 2 Expands the Royal Drama
The creators have indicated that the upcoming season will take the story beyond the palace walls, exploring more complicated relationships and family conflicts.
“Morpur has clearly found a place in the hearts of audiences far beyond its palace walls, and we couldn’t be happier,” Rangita and Ishita Pritish Nandy said in a joint statement.
They added that the new season would bring back familiar characters while increasing the romance, humour and family drama. Netflix India’s series head Tanya Bami also said the show would explore new relationships, rivalries and characters, widening the story’s canvas.
The creative team includes directors Nitya Mehra and Tanuj Chopra, who are expected to bring a fresh approach to the show’s mix of glamour, comedy and emotional conflict.
Why The Royals Season 2 Matters for Netflix
The first season made a strong international impression, appearing in Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English TV Shows across 58 countries and reaching the third position on the weekly global chart. The streamer also reported that it topped the chart in seven countries, including India.
That international reach gives the second season a bigger opportunity to build on the series’ blend of contemporary Indian royalty, romance and family drama. The expanded setting could also help the show move beyond its original love story and develop the wider royal family as an ensemble.
For now, The Royals Season 2 remains in production, with no confirmed premiere date. The first look establishes that Morpur’s story is continuing, but the biggest questions concern how Aviraaj’s life changes after Sophia’s exit and which new relationships will reshape the royal household.
