Ramayana Part 2 Postponed to 2028, Trilogy Possible

The wait for Ramayana: Part 2 will be longer than expected. Producer Namit Malhotra has confirmed that the sequel, previously planned for 2027, has been pushed to 2028, explaining that the team needs additional time to complete the ambitious project without compromising its scale.

Malhotra also hinted that the epic could eventually expand into a trilogy. Although the makers had settled on a two-part format, he said they may reconsider the structure after seeing how audiences respond to the first instalment.

Why Ramayana Part 2 Has Been Delayed

Speaking to E! News, Malhotra explained that the extra year would help the team give the sequel the treatment it deserves. He said the second film will present a much larger chapter of the story and that the makers do not want to rush the production.

“We didn’t want to do a rush job or get ahead of ourselves,” Malhotra said, adding that the team wants to deliver the finale “in the most grand way that it deserves.”

The producer also revealed that the project has evolved during production for international audiences. The team has created two master versions of the first film, with the English-language version receiving a separate edit and a rewritten script to present the story in its own form. The makers are still assessing how audiences respond to the different versions.

Could Ramayana Become a Trilogy?

Malhotra said Ramayana was originally envisioned as a trilogy before the filmmakers decided to tell the story across two movies. However, the possibility of a third instalment has not been ruled out.

In an interview with Review Nation, he explained that the team could return to the drawing board after receiving audience feedback and decide whether there is more material to add or subtract. For now, a third film is only a possibility—not an official confirmation.

What to Expect From the Epic Adaptation

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman.

The first instalment is scheduled to release in theatres on November 5, 2026. Part 2 is now planned for 2028, with the story expected to continue Rama’s journey following Sita’s abduction and the conflict with Ravana.

The delay gives the production more time to complete its large-scale visual effects and storytelling ambitions. While fans will have to wait longer for the sequel, Malhotra’s comments suggest the makers are prioritising a grand conclusion—and keeping the door open for a larger cinematic journey if audiences want more.
